Tradition: Songfest

Hey y’all!

With the Class of 2016 on campus – I cannot help but think back to my first few weeks on campus last year.  The excitement of the new semester can be felt all over campus, from Wonderful Wednesday to the Student Activities Fair, new classes, and even Songfest.

Without question my favorite Emory tradition is Songfest.  First and foremost, I wanted to congratulate Harris Hall on winning this year!  While I’m sort of bias and still believe Dobbs Hall to be the best (it was MY first year Residence Hall after all), I will admit that Harris did a great job.

For those of you who aren’t familiar with the Songfest, it is an annual tradition where all the freshman Residence Halls participate in a singing and dancing competition.  The song and dance routines/formations are different for each of the Halls.  From the first day of move-in through  the first day of class, the Halls have practice sessions to get ready before the performance.  While practice may be grueling at times, it’s an amazing way to meet your hall and make friends right off the bat!  Besides, it’s simply a great feeling when the judges announce your hall’s name as the winner and you realize all your hard work paid off…..not to mention that you have the Songfest ‘title’ to brag about for the next four years!

Have a great day!
